Despite putting on one of their best performances of the season, the Oakleigh Havoc boys were unable to take three points from their match against the league's leaders Katmorougio.
Havoc's team consisted of Joshua Henderson, Jon Tamvakis, Rhys Hawker, Sam Rogers and Michael Watkins, who made his first appearance in the competition. Unavailable for the squad were George Bezas, Lachlan Spiteri, Jake Winn and Rob McAndrew.
Oakleigh took charge of the match in the first half. The side managed to take a 2-0 through a Rogers double before conceding to their opponents. Havoc responded well with Rogers completing a first half hat-trick and Hawker scoring the team's fourth goal shortly after. The final stages of the half saw Havoc concede again to take deserved 4-2 lead into the break.
The second half saw a change in pace for the match. Havoc conceded three scrappy goals in the opening minutes of the half to fall behind 5-4 before Katmorougio opted for a change in tactics, using their physical advantage to push forward and apply pressure on the Havoc defence.
Oakleigh struggled to defend their opponent's long throws but managed to score against the run of play through Hawker to equalize at 5-5. Despite closing the deficit the team continued to struggle defensively and conceded a further two goals to trail 7-5 midway through the second period.
The team were not discouraged from moving forward though and still managed to get into their opponent's half through counter-attacks. Chances were created by Rogers and Hawker, however, their shots failed to find the goal, either hitting the goalframe or saved by the opposition keeper.
Another three goals to Katmorougio closed the match out and left Oakleigh Havoc 10-5 down.
The team will be in action this Wednesday at Lakeside Futsal at 9:20pm in an eagerly anticpated match against NFI United.
