Oakleigh's defence was put to the test by GLT FC throughout Tuesday night. The team found it hard to cope with their opponents' attacks in the first half. The side often lost key contests in defence and struggled to track opposition players in their defensive thirds.
GLT FC were initially unable to take advantage of their attacking efforts. Many chances went beckoning and were often spoiled by misplaced passes or overpowered and skewed shots at goal. This, however, would be rectified after the opening 7 minutes of the match. The side found their shooting boots to net five goals and head into the break with a 5-0 lead against the struggling Havoc side.
In the second half, Oakleigh Havoc opted for a counter-attacking approach. The change of tactic seemed to shift the momentum of the match in favour of Oakleigh. GLT FC, who were confident and looked to increase their lead, suddenly found themselves in danger 10 minutes into the second half.
Within a five minute period, Havoc had managed to convert three counter-attacks into three goals through Josh Henderson. The goals had brought Oakleigh Havoc back into the match with only two goals separating them from GLT FC. Their opponents, though, seemed rejuvenated from the slight comeback and quickly got back on the scoresheet with another three goals to secure an 8-3 win.
Despute an inspired comeback, Oakleigh Havoc were unable to overcome their opponents and will head into Week 2 looking for their first win of the season. They take on Panthers next week.
