Men's First Team: Havoc Pull Through Tough Encounter

Joshua Henderson

Oakleigh Havoc extended their winning run to three games after a clinical performance against Santos last Thursday night. The team looked likely to lose after a shaky start but goals from Liam Caruana and Jake Winn, along with Jonah Caruana and Josh Henderson later in the game, ensured Havoc took another three points to remain high up the league table.

It was Oakleigh's opponents who got the upper hand early in the match. A goal in the opening minute was followed by another in the fifth as Havoc struggled defensively. Santos looked to have taken control of the game but, three minutes later, failed to defend a quickly-taken corner which shifted momentum in favour of Oakleigh.

Liam Caruana's goal in the eighth minute opened the floodgates for Havoc. Jake Winn added a second shortly after his teammate before setting up Jonah Caruana for the side's third of the night. The goalscoring streak continued up until half-time with J. Caruana completing a hat-trick to give Oakleigh a comfortable 5-2 lead at the break.

Havoc didn't take long to add to their lead in the second half. J. Caruana continued where he left off by adding a sixth goal in the half's opening minute. Despite a four-goal deposit, Santos were persistent in their attack and within three minutes had scored three goals to bring the the score to 6-5.

Santos' comeback, however, was tainted. A combination of careless passing and sloppy defending proved costly to the side who worked hard to get back into the game. Within two minutes of scoring their fifth goal, Havoc's opponents conceded once again from a corner. Jake Winn, this time, slotting in his second goal of the match and seemingly shifting momentum once again in favour of Oakleigh Havoc.

Winn's effort, Oakleigh's seventh goal, was followed by another four goals in seven minutes for Havoc. Joshua Henderson added his name to the scoresheet while Winn scored again to complete a hat-trick for a second consecutive week. An emphatic double hat-trick was also achieved by J. Caruana who netted the team's eleventh and final goal of the night.

Oakleigh Havoc's onslaught of goals undoubtedly thwarted Santos' comeback. A late goal for Santos was deemed consolation as the full-time whistle confirmed yet another win for Havoc's First Team.
