Havoc Remain Top After Formidable First Half

After taking top place in the division before Easter, Havoc were up against Guaca Juniors on Tuesday night. With only one point separating the Reds from 2nd-placed Kipsta FC, a victory was required from their Round 9 fixture to maintain their position at the top.

Memories were still fresh from the previous match between Havoc and Guaca. The Round 2 match was an intense 2-2 draw which saw Havoc's D. Kim sent off early for foul play. Oakleigh, this time round, were on a five-game winning streak and eager to extend it to six consecutive wins after taking 1st place before the Easter break.

Match Summary

A classy first-half performance from Havoc almost determined the game early. After six minutes of play, J. Rowe put Oakleigh in front from close-range after a backheel assist from J. Winn. Over the remaining 12 minutes of the half, Havoc kept finding the target. M. Watkins netted a quick double before J. Henderson found the bottom corner to score the team's fourth goal. J. Rowe added more misery on Guaca as he put away a fifth Havoc goal into the top corner. A hat-trick looked on the cards for Watkins who came agonisingly close, striking the crossbar to finish the half.

With visibly deflated opposition, the second half was mostly uneventful for Havoc. Conceding a consolation goal was the only lowlight of the night, preventing the team from taking a clean sheet victory. Havoc took the win in a dominant 5-1 display against Guaca Juniors, redeeming the 2-2 draw from earlier in the season.
